Mixing Shine So Hard

I’m neck deep in tracks! Layers and layers and layers of sonic joy. Shine So Hard is for sure a pop band. It is a band, oh in all respects. 4 guys went into a room, made noise, and now I layer the bricks and cut the marble into a sonic masterpiece. It helps when the material you’re working with is so good, but there has been a lot of tweaking on these songs. This shit is personal. I went in with the agenda that I would make something better than my last band, Seven Car Pileup. Not out of spite or anything, but out of a quest for continual growth. If Seven Car had done another recording it would have had that same agenda. We spent a good 5 months of song-writing sessions, rehearsals, and demoing just to come up with the 4 exceedingly excellent songs that we recorded. It will probably take me the same amount of time to finish the mixes on these 4 beautiful songs. As we chisel we’re finding out about the character and nature of our sculpting material. Certain things work better than other things, and the things that nobody really thinks or knows become more and more apparent. I don’t think that I thought that this band would make the lush dreamy pop record that we have, but it just goes to show that this band is the sum of its parts.
